農曆年的最後一天，稱“除夕”，客家人又叫“大年晡夜”。正月初一，即農曆一年中的首日，俗稱為大年初一，與初二、初三稱為春節。客家人的過年涵蓋了春節，從農曆十二月二十四日就進入年界，直到正月十五出元宵。
到了十二月二十五後，我們都叫“入年界”意思就是過了今天新年就算是到來了，所以各家各户都會在自己的家裏，打掃衞生，辦年貨，釀豆腐，做煎堆(年糕)……
到了年三十的'除夕之夜，各家各户都會在子時一到時，爭搶第一個點放鞭炮：我們當地叫“打頭炮”。而到了年初一的早上，打開門的第一件事也是放一串鞭炮，這就叫開門紅。我們客家人把年初三稱為“窮鬼日”，那天，把堆積的穢物徹底乾淨地清掃出去，叫“送窮鬼”。
到了正月初四。做生意的則一早起來就掃地，自外朝裏掃，表示要把財掃進;農民説這一天要吃蒜和豬腸，説吃了豬腸、蒜，新年做起事來“長長有和算”。
這就是我們客家人的過春節風俗。
