有人聲稱，有由汽車帶來的諸多優勢。首先，汽車行業提供了無數的工人和其他行業的`大力支持的就業。其次，如果條件允許的情況下，擁有一輛汽車可以使我們更有效地工作。最後，生活將變得更加方便。一輛汽車可一到自由移動，並與一輛汽車也沒有必要在寒冷或烈日下等候巴士。
不過，也有人強烈反對發展私家車的增加。他們認為汽車會帶來一系列的問題。擺在首位，越來越多的汽車在街上的生產和運行，大量的有毒氣體將被釋放，污染大氣和人的健康造成實際損害的。其次，私家車造成交通阻塞如此之大的優勢，獲得了舒適和自由往往被取消，堵車造成的挫折。最後一個問題是越來越多的汽車意外死亡，會殺死很多人在不到一秒鐘的摩擦。
