Far and away the most important holiday in China is Spring Festival， also known as the Chinese New Year。 To the Chinese people it is as important as Christmas to people in the West。 the dates for this annual celebration are determined by the lunar calendar rather than the GREgorian calendar， so the timing of the holiday varies from late January to early February。
To the ordinary Chinese， the festival actually begins on the eve of the lunar New Year’s Day and ends on the fifth day of the first month of the lunar calendar。 But the 15th of the first month， which normally is called the Lantern Festival， means the official end of the Spring Festival in many parts of the country。

早上我掌廚
一大早起來，我本以為我是第一個起牀的。想不到爸爸媽媽早起牀了，他們正在拜菩薩。看見我來了，媽媽就問我早上想吃什麼，我説吃桂花園子吧。媽媽從冰箱裏拿出一包桂花園子。由於媽媽實在太忙了，就叫我自己燒。我想這可難不倒我，野炊時我可學了幾招。我把熱水放在鍋裏，然後放在電磁爐上，一會兒，熱水沸騰起來，我把園子放下去，蓋上鍋蓋，幾分鐘後，園子浮起來了，還胖乎乎的，這説明熟了。我把園子盛起來，放上糖。哇，這就燒好了。我嚐了，還給媽媽長了一下，媽媽還説太好吃了！
新年討紅包
“新年到來，紅包拿來。”“新年快樂！”在走向爺爺家的路上，我聽見好多人都在向長輩們討紅包，祝福他們。“叮咚。”爺爺家到了，爺爺來開門，“新年到了，祝爺爺長命百歲！”我説。“也祝你好好學習，天天向上。”爺爺笑着。我把右手一攤。爺爺一時還沒反應過來，但又馬上從口袋裏掏出紅包給我。“謝謝爺爺！”我們待了一會兒，又到外公外婆家討紅包。
